Today was a beautiful day in Central New York! We have had a lot of snow and today the temperature reached 50 degrees. It was wonderful to get some fresh air and listen to a podcast!
We listened to Erie Canal (5-#39, STEM-#8, Complete-#104), which is local for us. Before the podcast most students did not know much about the Erie Canal. Afterwards they were able to talk about how long it took to make, that Dewitt Clinton was made fun of, and that it was called “Clinton’s Ditch.” They also know it took eight years to build. They understood that many people lost their lives due to diseases as well.
I was amazed at all they had learned in just fifteen minutes. They were excited to go home and talk to family members about it since many of them have taken a walk or bike ride alone the Erie Canal.
Thank YOU, Walking Classroom! My students say that doing The Walking Classroom is their favorite time of the day and that they are going to really miss it next year.
