And now, the moment for which you all have been waiting! Finally, it is time to announce the winners of The Walking Classroom’s 2019 Illustration Contest!
Since late-January, large manila envelopes found their way to our office. All were full of entries for our annual illustration contest.
As we did last year, we offered prizes for the winners and runners-up in three different categories. And, there were a variety of creative and colorful illustrations submitted!
The guidelines . . .
Again, this year’s contest presented several possibilities for student artists. Students’ artwork could be from any one of the following categories.
- Draw pictures of your class walking, listening and learning (and, of course, smiling!).
- Illustrate your favorite podcast.
- Create a before and after walking illustration. What do you look like before and then after a Walking Classroom lesson?
After opening all of the envelopes, we had quite a stack of artful illustrations from which to choose. And, they were in a variety of mediums! In creating their illustrations, students made masterful use of colored pencils, markers, and crayons. It was a pleasure looking through them all, but it was no small feat selecting our winners!
And the winners are . . .
With so many great choices, the decision took some time. When the late-March deadline for entries hit, we had some work to do. First, we had to go through the stack and sort the illustrations into the correct categories. Then, we began to separate some from the others.
Eventually, we narrowed it down and chose the winners and runners-up, and are pleased to share our selections.

This year, we also identified an Honorable Mention in each of the three categories. In addition, we selected three entries for their particularly innovative/imaginative design.
