The fourth grade “Walking Wildcats” of Wingate Elementary officially kicked off their Walking Classroom experience with a Walk-Off in mid-April. Mother Nature decided to make our day cold and blustery. That didn’t stop us though! We stayed warm and toasty in our school cafeteria! Several folks joined us for our inaugural walk. We had members of our Wingate Elementary staff, community leaders, and Natalie Dekle, the Program Manager from The Walking Classroom!
It was a great morning! We learned about the program, walked with a buddy while listening to the lesson on Jack Prelutsky, and even enjoyed a healthy snack afterward. This was a perfect tie-in to our Poetry Unit and a great way to celebrate National Poetry Month.
We are very grateful for this unique opportunity. Already, we have students in other grades asking us, “What are you listening to?” and “Does my teacher have that, too?”
At this point, we are well underway with the program. We are excited to use The Walking Classroom up until the very last day . . . hour . . . minute of school this year!
