Two to three times a week, my students and I walk around the block near our school. The kids just love going outside! They get about a one-mile walk for their walking and learning.
Sometimes a young man with autism joins us. Although from a different classroom, he loves to come on our walks with us. Afterward, he goes back and tells his teacher what he has listened to that day. Sometimes she has to come to ask me if he has told her the correct thing! He remembers so much of the information.
It thrills his mother that he gets included in our class. He has never been invited to join a regular ed class before. This experience has allowed him to feel comfortable coming into the classroom for other projects. Thank you, Walking Classroom!
