Phil Swing Elementary School, Brawley, CA— There is a new type of learning going on in Samara Storms’ fifth grade classroom at Phil Swing Elementary School, thanks to The Walking Classroom, a project geared to keep students active and on their feet while learning at the same time.
Fifth grade student Lauren Zaragoza said she was skeptical of the new program. She thought walking and listening to something would not work for her, but after six lessons, she has come to enjoy them, she said.
“I didn’t think it would be good,” Zaragoza admitted. “I didn’t know that when you walk it helps your brain concentrate more. It helps you get more exercise while you learn at the same time.”
