While scrolling through Pinterest a few years ago, I came across The Walking Classroom. I was intrigued by the idea, and started down a rabbit hole investigating, which eventually led me to receiving a granted set. When I got my supplies, I took the time to open them up, labeled everything, and started practicing for day one! The program was so easy to follow. I was confident that my students would love it, and I would be able to seamlessly implement the program into our school day.
As we walked and listened, our class became the talk of the school! Questions abounded: “What are they doing?” “What are they listening to?” and “Can we do that in OUR class?”
The students loved the topics! They learned the routine very quickly, and looked forward to the next podcast. We tracked our steps and traveled hundreds of miles before the year was over.
I was able to show the students that learning does not just happen sitting in your seat with a worksheet in front of you. Learning does not only happen behind a computer screen. Learning can happen anywhere, including outside of the classroom, while walking around the school!
