Thank you, Walking Classroom! While teaching during the pandemic, The Walking Classroom was a wonderful activity for students to enjoy during their mask breaks!
The learning was engaging and fun while happening outdoors and safe. The podcasts of the Walking Classroom align with the standards and therefore with the curriculum, so students’ learning is extended through every listening walk.
Starting The Walking Classroom early in the school year helps with classroom management and structure. Once the students begin with The Walking Classroom, their discourse is natural and they enjoy seeking out the thoughts of their peers as the topics of the podcasts are so interesting.
In April, to align with the opening day of our local baseball team, students learned about the history of baseball in America. We covered the Negro Baseball League (5-#4, Complete-#121), the 7th inning stretch via “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” (5-#6, Complete-#30), and even more through the podcasts provided.
Other interesting podcasts include the history of the “Happy Birthday” song, which launches students into wondering about the history and origin of other popular customs and traditions that they’ve never thought about before. Walking Classroom is engaging and interesting while being healthy and fun!
