Today was our first day back after the winter break. The kids were excited to see “Walking Classroom” on the day’s schedule. Early in the day I introduced our new project work topic — Wellness. The students brainstormed what they already knew about the subject. After reading time, we got outside with our Walkits tuned to podcast #4, “Slimy Shields.” As the kids walked, I would hear occasional giggles, groans and laughter, as they learned about some of the “gross” body defenses that help promote wellness.
After the walk, students exclaimed, “That podcast goes with our Wellness project!” They went on to discuss open ended questions with partners, remembering detailed information about our project work topic. They were making connections and applying the information eagerly and effortlessly.
What a fabulous resource! Thanks Walking Classroom.
