Eighteen months ago, I applied for a granted set of Walking Classroom materials and was awarded one this year. I am lucky enough to work in partnership with a bilingual teacher willing to implement the program with me to get our students moving.
Because we have had some weather issues here in Texas, we had a slow start. Now, we are in our third week and the kids are super excited. I love the variety of podcasts we can have the students listen to.
We had a track built on the school grounds last year, and this is where we have been walking. The kids love time spent moving outside, especially since the weather has been a bit more agreeable than it usually is this time of year!
In order to work up to using The Walking Classroom twice a week as is suggested, I have used the last part of my library time on Mondays and my intervention time on Thursdays to implement the program.
I hope to begin using the other resources too, in addition to walking, listening, learning, and discussing. I am thankful to have been given the opportunity to use these with my students this year.
