Hello, Walking Classroom friends! My students and I used The Walking Classroom for the first time recently, and what a great time we had! We lucked out with a beautiful day in Pottstown, Pennsylvania — a perfect day to get outside with the students.
Some of our students attend class in person and some attend class virtually, but that didn’t stop us from enjoying a walk while listening to an interesting podcast. For getting started, I found Welcome to the Walking Classroom (4-#1, 5-#1, STEM-#1, Complete-#1) and Introduction to The Walking Classroom (4-#3, 5-#2, STEM-#3, Complete-#2) extremely helpful.
Taking the time in the beginning of class to thoroughly explain this new and exciting program and why we are using it was very important. Showing the students how to use the WalkKits and all of the features helped as well.
I used The Walking Classroom with one of our Life Skills classes at my high school. Luckily I had some extra help from other adults who join us in class. This proved quite beneficial because our kids needed lots of assistance at first. We began by practicing with the WalkKits inside the classroom.
I’m pleased to say that taking the time to prepare them really paid off. The students look forward to walking, listening, and learning again! Next time we use the device, they will be old pros!!
Thanks Walking Classroom!
