Triple Play with TWC!

12.15.16
posted by a former TWC staffer

When most of us hear the phrase “Triple Play,” the first thing that comes to mind is the amazing and very rare play that happens during a baseball game. For a triple play to occur, two things must be present on the field. Two players have to be on base with no outs, and something miraculous has to happen that allows the opposite team to make three outs.

Club members and staff of Boys and Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) hear the phrase “Triple Play” and they think of something very different. The Triple Play program for BGCA is a holistic health program that focuses on club members’ MIND, BODY, and SOUL. The goal of the program is to increase club members’ daily physical activity as well as to educate them on healthy habits and positive character development.

A Homerun!

Fortunately, for Boys and Girls Clubs of America, The Walking Classroom makes it easy to knock the ball out of the park! TWC is a perfect fit for BGCA Triple Play program. Triple Play and TWC are perfect teammates!

  • [hl color=”#844a6a”]MIND[/hl] — Health literacy and academic enrichment provide club members with over 100 different podcasts that cover a different health message and academic content. Club members learn healthy lifestyles while gaining the benefits of physical activity.
  • [hl color=”#844a6a”]BODY[/hl] — Club members get 20 to 30 minutes of physical activity with each lesson. Walking is a non-competitive activity in which everyone can be successful.
  • [hl color=”#844a6a”]SOUL[/hl] — Character value lessons highlighted in each podcast allow club members to discuss topics that focus on cooperation, honesty, respect, and more!

Staff and club members aren’t the only ones who can score with The Walking Classroom! Families and community volunteers are encouraged and welcomed to join in on the walks. This allows the healthy habits developed through the Triple Play program and The Walking Classroom to continue to be reinforced at home and in the community.
