The Walking Classroom has given my students and I the opportunity to take learning outdoors, and we love it! Our students love going outside and taking part in outdoor learning. The students are able to take on a lot more responsibility and independence in their learning. Students are able to demonstrate their ability to multitask and carefully cross the streets while listening to their podcasts.
My students are always asking, “Ms. Lau, can we do the Walking Classroom today?” They look forward to going outside and learning about a new topic. In fact, my students enjoy The Walking Classroom so much that they ask about it rain or shine. Once, when it was raining very hard and we couldn’t walk to the neighboring park, a student suggested that we do The Walking Classroom in our school building, and we did!
In addition, The Walking Classroom has been super helpful to meet the needs of all my students. One of my students who generally requires more attention and support exhibits more independence when he participates in the Walking Classroom. He is very careful with his WalkKit and loves to carry it around everywhere. The Walking Classroom is one of his favorite things to do, so thank you so much for making that happen.
Your program has helped make learning more exciting for our students while they meet their learning standards. The Walking Classroom particularly helps my fourth and fifth grade combo class because I can assign different podcasts to students according to their respective grade levels. My fourth graders can listen to a podcast about the California Gold Rush while the fifth graders can learn about the American Revolution. The Walking Classroom has helped our class integrate technology into learning and has engaged many students in the process.
