It has taken some time, but we are happy to say that the results of The Walking Classroom Midyear Survey for 2016-2017 have been tabulated. It is always good to get feedback from the folks who use our program. The insights and ideas shared are invaluable!
Who responded?
We surveyed over 800 educators using our program, both in classrooms and in out-of-school settings. Most respondents (58.6%) were in their first year using the program, but there were a good number of respondents (15.1%) who have been using the program three or more years!
Training? For Sure!
84.45% of respondents reported that they had received training before implementing the program. As we find that folks who complete the training have the most success (and a positive experience) implementing the program, we sent out our training link to those who indicated they had not been trained. If you haven’t received training, let us know, so that we can share that information with you too!
Resources and More!
73.7% of respondents use supplemental resources in their implementation of the program, primarily those provided by The Walking Classroom. As our adopter resources page is a relatively new addition to the website (August 2016), it is possible that some folks were unaware of the resources we provide for our adopters. These include slide decks, electronic quizzes, supplemental videos, and more! If you are an existing adopter and need information on how to access those resources, feel free to contact us.
Beyond the resources we provide our adopters, folks mentioned others they currently use (Kahoot, Plickers, Screen Castify, as well as games and texts).
Words Galore!
When we gave folks the opportunity to describe The Walking Classroom in three words, we found ourselves overwhelmed by the wealth of wonderful ways our adopters described us. Among the top ten?

Challenges at the Fore?
61% of respondents reported no challenges incorporating The Walking Classroom. The remaining respondents cited time, weather, and student behavior as their occasional obstacles, with time taking the lead. Feel free to share your tips and tricks for triumphing over these troubles. Also, be looking for future blog posts presenting specific strategies for addressing these very things!
Things to Explore!
When we inquired about suggestions for additional resources or webinar topics, 19.75% of folks offered their ideas. Many proposed specific content. Others offered ideas to support specific podcast topics, such as the following:
- literacy links
- graphic organizers
- links to student-friendly sites
- anchor charts
What great ideas! Be looking for these to be incorporated in blog posts and on the adopter resources page in future months!
Several folks also suggested the possibility of Skype or Google hangouts between teachers to share best practices or between classes studying the same topic. These ideas are definitely worth exploring!
