Our first year with The Walking Classroom has been a huge hit with both teachers and students! The podcasts allow students to have a real purpose. They start the day by getting their morning exercise. Teachers love the easy to access podcast summaries and the quizzes that accompany nearly all of the podcasts. In fact, the quizzes are a great way to assess how much students are understanding from what they hear. Beyond those positive points, the skills and content align well to common core standards.
With The Walking Classroom, students “paraphrase portions of a text read aloud or information presented in diverse media and formats, including visually, quantitatively, and orally” (CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.SL. 4.2). They also can “identify the reasons and evidence a speaker provides to support particular points” (CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.SL. 4.3).
Thank you, Walking Classroom, for this wonderful addition to our curriculum!
