This has been a tough stretch for everyone — teachers, staff, parents and students. With that said, The Walking Classroom has helped bring some sanity to this challenging time. My students used the Walking Classroom to review their learning from class, as well as learning more about the importance of nutrition and social interaction.
Due to restrictions, time out of the learning space was priceless and needed. Thanks to The Walking Classroom, my students were able to get up and stretch their legs while engaging in learning. The Walking Classroom gave my class the wiggle outlet that they needed but kept the learning flowing.
Students and teachers alike enjoyed the time moving and learning more about topics. We were able to cover United States history, science topics like the water cycle (4-#30, STEM-#12, Complete-#148), and ELA topics, such as idioms (4-#7, 5-#3, Complete-#3) and poetry. Students were also excited to learn about famous people in history. They looked forward to these walks and enjoyed learning from a conversation of peers their own age. The comprehension quizzes provided by The Walking Classroom gave accountability for learning and helped with determining what topics needed more teaching and reviewing.
We are so glad that we had The Walking Classroom to use with the students so that they could continue learning in a safe and enjoyable manner, even during COVID. Kudos for providing teachers like us this special tool to help our students during this difficult year!
