Out of School Time (OST) and TWC
Did you know The Walking Classroom isn’t just for the 4th and 5th grade classroom settings? TWC has “walked” its way into the Out of School Time settings as well. OST adopters have their own discussion guide, newsletters, and standards aligned activities!
THE DISCUSSION GUIDE
We have redesigned our teachers guide to be more OST friendly. The Discussion Guide lesson plans offer a brief introduction to each podcast, character value traits, three questions with suggested answers, and two health check questions. The new design will help site coordinators facilitate more meaningful discussions with students in an OST setting.
HEPA Standards Aligned with TWC
Many OST sites makes sure their program aligns with Healthy Eating and Physical Activity(HEPA) standards. The Walking Classroom perfectly aligns with many of the HEPA standards. For example, TWC aligns with HEPA Healthy Eating Staff Training (HEST) category by offering free online training to all new program adopters throughout the year. You can find a matrix that compares HEPA standards and best practices with features and activities offered by TWC here.
Blogs, Newsletters, and Resources
The Walking Classroom blog and newsletters aren’t just for teachers! Be on the look out for more blog posts labeled with the OST tag that provide helpful resources and ideas for our OST adopters. Each of
our OST adopters will also receive an enewsletter each month, which will include an AT HOME CONNECTION. The At HOME CONNECTION is a simple paragraph written by TWC that can be copied, pasted, and edited to fit into any site’s newsletters.
TWC is so excited to welcome all of our new OST adopters and thrilled to offer more support and resources for our existing OST adopters.
Be sure to sign up for TWC blog and look for the OST tag!

I enjoy the blog as I can always find useful and helpful information and resources. The matrix for the HEPA standards link is great. Others should check it out.
