We are a middle school group of emergent bilingual students with students from Mexico, Nicaragua, Honduras, Peru, Venezuela, Senegal, and Puerto Rico in a small rural community. Many of our students have arrived in the United States in the past two to three years and are working hard to understand the English language. The Walking Classroom has been invaluable for these students to talk about their health and get outside hearing the English language while learning important content.
We have taken the WalkKits out through our entire winter season and the kids have loved getting outside even when it was cold. For many of them that was the only time they got outside moving their bodies because culturally they do not go outside when it is cold. This program allowed me to show them that getting outside in the snow with the proper snow clothing is fun and can be done each day.
Thank you for changing these kids’ lives one walk at a time.
