The National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) is the leading nonprofit organization dedicated to the advancement of public parks, recreation, and conservation. Their work draws national focus to the far-reaching impact of successes generated at the local level. NRPA’s members of park and recreation professionals and advocates are 50,000 strong and represent public spaces in urban communities, rural settings, and everything in between.
NRPA partners with like-minded organizations including those in the federal government, nonprofits, and commercial enterprises. Funded through dues, grants, registrations, and charitable contributions, NRPA produces research, education, and policy initiatives for their members to ultimately enrich the communities they serve. NRPA is a strong supporter of the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) and introduced legislation to fund urban parks.
Their mission is to advance parks, recreation, and environmental conservation efforts that enhance the quality of life for all people. Their goal is for everyone to have easy access to park and recreation opportunities in sustainable communities.
Selections were made by NAA based on strong advocacy for and support of health and wellness in afterschool. Those selected represent individuals and organizations whose service, action, and leadership align with and support the NAA Healthy Eating and Physical Activity (HEPA) Standards and affect large numbers of youth, families, or afterschool professionals.
