The Walking Classroom is all about being active, so naturally we love the idea of keeping students up and moving, even during the post-walk review! This post is all about a fun and simple activity that can be done following a walk to get students thinking more deeply about the content. This would be a great way to review the content after the first time you’ve walked and listened to a podcast, or as a summative activity in place of, or in addition to, the comprehension quiz.
Here’s How We Roll!
1. Go on a walk and listen to a Walking Classroom podcast.
2. If possible, find a spot outside after your walk (or go back into the classroom) to review what the class just heard on the podcast.
3. Students toss the ball to one another. Whoever catches the ball gets to answer the question using the question stem on which his or her left thumb lands.
4. Once the student has answered the question, he or she tosses it to another student.
All the questions are open-ended and are applicable to any of the podcasts! Ready to make your own Walking Classroom ball? It couldn’t be easier!
Don’t have a ball? Make your own!
1. Grab a cheap beach ball and blow it up.
2. Write a question stem in each section with a sharpie. Below is the list of question stems we’ve used. Feel free to use these or make up your own!
3. Let the ball dry and get ready for some active review!

Love this! Still keeps them moving and alert with the addition of reviewing what they learned!

I love this idea! We have been having so many indoor recesses due to weather, so it would be great to have the kids continue with activity after the indoor walk.
