My fourth graders are loving The Walking Classroom. They enjoy getting outside and learning new concepts while walking and always ask when we are doing the WalkKits again. They are getting close to the point of being able to pick their own topics for the week instead of the teacher picking. I love being able to get outside and add some exercise for my class and get the bonus of learning as well.
Getting started with the Walking Classroom was easy. The devices are easy to use and students are able to easily manipulate them. The students love being able to switch out the caboose and pace car position weekly. They love being the leaders of the day’s route!
The Walking Classroom’s podcasts are about fifteen minutes long, which is perfect for students. The students and teacher speaking on the podcasts also give good examples during the lesson which are easy for the students to remember and then later talk about.
Similes and Metaphors (4-#11, 5-#72, Complete-#4) greatly helped my fourth graders understand the differences that they were struggling with between the two figures of speech. Native American Constellations (4-#67, Complete-#146) was a great addition to our Native American unit. It gave students a different perspective on how the Native Americans understood the world around them.
We can’t wait to walk, listen, and learn even more through the various podcasts as the year goes on!
