My third graders have been studying animals and looked at dinosaur fossils to determine if particular dinosaurs were herbivores or carnivores. I found the podcast on Food Chains (Combined-#130, 4-#42, STEM-#33). I thought it would be a perfect fit for our current explorations in science.
We watched the supplemental videos ahead of time. I feel they provide some good background information for my students. Plus, videos are always a hit with my third graders! I am grateful that the creators of this program took the time to include even more ways for students to learn.
Aside from several of the podcasts aligning with what we are learning in class, I love that The Walking Classroom provides a different mode for students to take in information. We know as teachers that not every student is going to learn best by reading an article or listening to a teacher talk. I believe this program has been such a wonderful gift.
I’m noticing that the students who have a hard time focusing in their seats are thoroughly enjoying this program. And so are my tech-savvy students!
Of course, we will continue to read, write, watch videos, explore using hands-on materials, and speak about what we are learning. It has been such a joy to have this addition to our educational journey!
