With The Walking Classroom, my students have been loving walking (and exercising!) while they learn. We especially enjoyed listening to Slave Life and Rebellions (Complete-#76, 5-#47). My students were excited to make connections to Nat Turner’s rebellion which we had learned about in social studies. Thanks to the podcast, they also got to hear about other rebellions that took place.
To provide a podcast preview, I often let students look at the podcast quiz before we walk. This helps them know what to listen for during the podcast.
I also find that it is helpful for them to watch the supplemental videos suggested by The Walking Classroom. Doing this provides my students with some quick background knowledge about the podcast topic.
My students have lots of energy, so walking (and exercising!) really helps them focus when we get back to class. On those days when it is too cold or rainy outside, we just walk in our cafeteria!
