This year has been challenging. My students crave movement, but we are trying to teach more curriculum than ever before. This leads to frustration and behavioral outbursts. Since implementing The Walking Classroom though, students come into school each morning asking if today is a walk day.
My kids want to choose podcasts as a birthday celebration. They are responding to the messages in the programs, and are making connections to our curriculum and their own lives.
One of my favorite moments came after listening to Heroic Dogs and Horses (4-#37). We had a discussion about loyalty and the character traits of those animals. This transformed into a conversation about how the students’ friendships would improve if they displayed those same qualities.
The Walking Classroom has improved morale, engagement, and conversation in my classroom this year. The kids are excited to exercise and can explain how movement helps them to learn. The Walking Classroom has made an incredible impact at our school and we are so grateful!
