The Walking Classroom is a lifesaver for my ESL students. It opens their minds to things that they never knew existed. The light in their eyes when something finally clicks — it’s magical!
I also want to express the importance of hearing fluent reading if your students are not fluent readers. My students have gained so much confidence in their own reading because of this program! Hearing words that they can’t read can help my students read the words when they finally see them.
Not only has The Walking Classroom made my students better readers, but it’s also made them more interested in STEM fields. I’ve worked with their enthusiasm and set up our next big assignment! A SCIENCE FAIR! This program setup is so easy and the instructional videos make everything flow without kinks or hassles. During the first few weeks of setup and exploring, the students’ eyes lit up with excitement over something new and fun.
Using this program in my classroom has also enabled me to incorporate science in a more accessible and interesting way. We’ve used the inventors from the STEM podcasts to even create our own wax museum as an extension piece! They chose an inventor from the title lists and dove straight into their work!
As I’ve mentioned before, this program has brought excitement back into the lives of my students, especially after the off year(s) because of COVID-19. Our setbacks were obvious, but The Walking Classroom is helping fill in gaps more than I knew was imaginable. I cannot say enough positive things about what this program has done for my students. We can’t wait for our weekly walks!
