We LOVE having our Walking Classroom supplies. We have had an extremely wet January in Rome, Georgia. Our afterschool students love when they see the sun break through the clouds, so we can get outside and walk.
Our school is a community school. We are in the center of our neighborhood. Our school has very little recreational land, so we use The Walking Classroom in our neighborhood. When we take our walks, it is like we are having our own little parade. It never fails that a neighbor or two are outside working in their yard or walking their dogs. Our children always greet them with the sweetest smiles. The neighbors seem to enjoy ous passing by.
Elm Street is a Title I school that provides free aftersschool care. Students arrive at 7:15 a.m. and we feed them breakfast. Their day ends at 2:45 p.m., and afterschool participants then join their after school teacher. Our after school participants from second grade to sixth grade have already sat in classrooms for almost eight hours.
The Walking Classroom allows these precious students to get active. We still can focus on academics while helping our program participants to become healthy active children. Without you, we would not have this valuable resource. I am sending 50 virtual hugs from our afterschool children.
